Read the certificate report
What do Fail, Query and To confirm mean on a Lab files report? How to read the verdict, each finding, and What was checked, and decide what to ask the lab.
At the end you know whether to load the batch, query it, or send it back, and what to say to the laboratory.
The report is one page per certificate. It is written for the lab as much as for you, so each finding says what is odd, why it matters and what to check.
Before you begin
- A certificate in Batch checks, with its row selected. The report is under the list, headed Report: and the certificate number.
Steps
- Read the verdict at the top right, and the line under it. Fail means send the batch back to the lab. Query means ask the lab before loading. Pass means there is nothing to raise.
- Read the facts under the heading: client, despatch or PO number, dates, how many samples are on the certificate and how many were declared, and the lab’s own checks.
- If Before this batch can be accepted appears, answer it on the card above Batch checks. The certificate cannot go into a project until it is empty.
- Read the Findings table, worst first. Each row has a level, the check it comes from, the finding, why it matters and what to check.
- Read What was checked at the foot. It lists your CRMs, blanks and duplicates even when they pass, then the lab’s duplicates, repeats, blanks and standards, and the values that are not results.
- Read the last line, which states the rules the verdict used, so the lab knows what Fail meant.
| Level | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Fail | A blank or standard outside the rule, or another finding the rule fails. Send the batch back. |
| Query | Something to ask the lab before loading, such as a missing sample or a duplicate outside its limit. |
| To confirm | A code or prefix you have not defined. The batch cannot be accepted until you do. |
| Note | For information. A standard with no certified values, or an analyte with no detection limit. |
Result
You have a verdict, a list of what to raise with the lab, and a report you can send them as it is.
If something goes wrong
- A standard is only listed, not judged. The app has no certified values for it. Load your CRM certified values.
- Below detection results are nowhere in the report. That is by design. The app never plots, counts or mentions them. A blank below detection is a clean blank.
- The report shows the first certificate, not the one you selected. Select the row’s certificate number, not the space beside it.
