Set up each laboratory’s methods, digests and ranks

Which digest does each lab method use, and which result should win when a sample has two? Confirm each method’s digest and rank, by hand or from a file.

At the end each laboratory method has your own code for it, a confirmed digest and a rank, kept in your account.

A sample can have more than one result for an element, for example a four-acid ICP result over its upper limit and an ore-grade result for the same element. The rank says which one Drillhole Analysis uses: rank 1 is preferred. The digest says how much of the element the method dissolves. Aqua regia is partial for many silicate-hosted elements, so a check of rock chemistry keeps only four-acid or fusion results for them. The app offers each method’s digest from the codes it knows, such as ME-ICP41 for aqua regia, and you confirm or change it once.

Before you begin

  • You are signed in.
  • At least one certificate is kept in a project, so its methods are listed. You can also add methods by hand.

Steps

  1. On the Lab files tab, under Your set-up, select Methods.
  2. With clients, choose under For your account or a client. With none, the box isn’t shown and the methods are kept for your account.
  3. Under Laboratory, choose the laboratory, or type its name.
  4. For each method, type your own code if it differs from the laboratory’s, choose its digest and give its rank. A method marked Not set up yet comes from your certificates, with the digest offered.
  5. Where one element should come from a different method, type the element under Rank one element differently, choose its method and give its rank.
  6. Select Save the changes.
  7. To add them from a file, select The template (CSV) and fill it in: one row per method, and one row per element rank with its element. Choose the file under Add methods, read what the app says it found, then select Keep these.

Result

The list shows each method kept for that client and laboratory, with its code, digest and rank. Drillhole Analysis uses the ranks and digests the next time it reads your projects’ assays.

If something goes wrong

  • A digest is not used. A digest is aqua regia, four-acid, fusion or other. Fire assay counts as fusion.
  • A rank is refused. A rank is a whole number from 1 to 99.
  • A method shows the wrong digest. The digest offered is a guess from its code until you save it. Choose the right one and select Save the changes.
